SOLEIMANI AND LEFT OF CENTER JOURNALISM

Eric Martindale • January 9, 2020

A CAREFUL REVIEW SHOWS SOLEIMANI WAS A TRUE THREAT

We now have the astounding situation that the military leader of enemy forces that have attacked and killed Americans is being defended by some pundits and journalists.

Is there any value to news from the Far Left? The answer is still “yes”, but you need to have the proper perspective when you read it. That perspective is to accept absolutely nothing at face value, and to look for clues that either verify or discredit conservative journalism.

And that is necessary because we can’t always trust conservative journalism either. Today, we undertake a careful review of this left of center article written by Scott Ritter about the killing of Quassem Soleimani.  https://www.rt.com/op-ed/477423-us-soleimani-assassination-consequences/?fbclid=IwAR1I63fnFLQ9UyqxXC0deyfljLY40Ucqpxpm_ltv-ouYpgxMsgm2Sd6mEOY

The reader can tell right from the opening paragraph that the article is anti-Trump and anti-American. Some readers will just click past the article at that point, and not read further. Others will read further until they see that Ritter praises Soleimani’s “leadership, courage, and decisiveness”. That’s more than enough to stop reading.

But then it gets more interesting. There’s a couple of gems from the article that reveal the truth, and actually reinforce conservative reporting on Soleimani:

1. “Soleimani gained prominence in Iran during the Iranian Revolution and the eight-year war with Iraq…During this time, Soleimani developed the skillset that would later serve him well as the leader of the Quds Force, the paramilitary organization he helped found in the aftermath of the Iran-Iraq War.”

2. “…the leader of the Quds Force, the paramilitary organization he helped found in the aftermath of the Iran-Iraq War.

3. “The Quds Force was designed to project Iranian influence through covert means. Soleimani and the Quds Force first came into prominence in 1998, after the Taliban murdered hundreds of Afghan Shi’a and nine Iranians (eight diplomats and a journalist) following the capture of the northern Afghan city of Mazar-i Sharif.”

4. “When the US started turning its guns on Shi’a forces, Soleimani and his Quds Force took the lead in organizing anti-American resistance in Iraq, leading to increasingly violent clashes that resulted in significant American casualties. Today, many veterans of the US war in Iraq hold Soleimani personally accountable for the hundreds of American soldiers who lost their lives due to the tactics employed by Iraqi militias trained and equipped by Soleimani’s Quds Force.”

5. “Soleimani’s actions in directing the Quds Force to organize pro-Assad Shi’a militias in Syria…”

6. “…it was Soleimani, at the invitation of the Iraqi government, who helped organize and equip various Shi’a militias under the umbrella of the Popular Mobilization Force. Soleimani went on to direct the PMF in a series of bloody battles that helped turn the tide against the Islamic State well before the US became decisively engaged in the fighting. Soleimani played a defining role in shaping the Middle East in the aftermath of 9/11, positioning Iran to become a major power in the region, if not the major power.”

7. “…Soleimani’s Quds Force responded by orchestrating a series of deniable attacks on oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz, and used Houthi proxies in Yemen to launch a devastating attack using armed drones against strategic Saudi oil production facilities.”

These seven points in his own article show the extent of this man’s evil sphere of influence. He really was a bad guy that needed to be neutralized. The Quds Force was born out of the anti-American Iranian Revolution, and over the decades they have sided with America at times only when their Shiite-based interests align with America’s strategic goals.

In 1943, America launched Operation Vengeance to kill Japanese General Yamamoto, considered to be the architect of the Pearl Harbor attack. Yamamoto’s plane was intercepted and shot down in the Soloman Islands, killing all aboard.

More recently, President Obama approved a Navy Seal mission to hunt down and kill Osama bin Laden while he was hiding in a compound in the shadow of government buildings in Pakistan. As poisoned as our political atmosphere was, the Republicans all praised Obama for taking decisive action and killing bin Laden. So, does Trump get the same respect from the Left for killing Soleimani?  No, of course not. This proves that the most intense political hatred in this country is the Left hating the Right, not the Right hating the Left.

The author repeatedly takes positions that Iran’s actions are in response to international events in and near Iran. Oh, poor Iran, caught in the middle of American and other Western economic and strategic interests…. lol. Ritter evidently believes everything from the Iran-Iraq War to the Afgan Civil War to the rise of ISIS and conflict with the Trump administration are largely secular or political matters either caused or exasperated by American “meddling” in the region. It’s the classic Far Left perspective in which religion matters very little. But in this case, it’s all about religion, the Islamic religion.

There’s no mention by Ritter of the ongoing strife between Islamic sects, and how that strife has defined the political alliances and wars of the past 40 years. He instead presents the perspective that the problem is political-driven conflict between the nation states of the region, and American’s shifting positions. It’s simply absurd. He’s got it completely ass-backwards.  Ritter expects the educated reader to read his article, and NOT analyze it from the perspective of Sunni versus Shiite religious strife.

The main focus of all the region’s troubles is centuries of bloody conflict between Sunni’s and Shiite’s, and the secondary focus is conflict between Muslims and Jews over Palestine. Conflict with America and the Western World is a distant third, and that stems only from how America has responded to the main two conflicts.

I’m not painting with a broad brush here. I’m not saying America has made all the right decisions over the past 41 years.  We haven’t, especially under the Obama administration.  But the reality is that most people in Iran hate us, and their government has effectively been at war with us for 41 years, since the Iranian Revolution in 1979. We have nothing to apologize for, except perhaps that many Americans are too foolish to realize that they simply hate us and all of our Christian-based Western values.

And more importantly, the Sunni and Shiites have been at war with each other for over 1300 years since the death of Muhammad. Iran was against the Taliban for the same reason they were against ISIS and the regime of Saddam Hussein. All three entities were Sunni-based. Ooops, Ritter missed that point.

The other central error in the article is that Ritter never stated the obvious fact that this General was following the orders of the senior Iranian leaders that he reports to. He’s doing his job like a good soldier, and carrying out their wishes.

It’s painfully obvious that those Iranian leaders really do want Iran and the Shiite sect of Islam to dominate the region. Ritter saying that isn’t the case carries no weight, and doesn’t even flow logically from his own arguments.

Iran has a centuries-long dream of controlling Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, and the entire Arabian peninsula. The crown jewels in this dream are the holy cities of Mecca and Medina, and of course the oil reserves of Iraq, Saudi Arabia, and the smaller Gulf States. Their desire for regional domination has been thwarted for hundreds of years, first by the Ottoman Empire, and now by Western powers and Israel.

Iran was close to winning in the final years of the Iran-Iraq war, 1980 - 1988. We Americans look at a map, and see that they fought for 8 years just to try and encircle Basra, a major Iraqi city almost smack on the border. However, if they ever got their army south of both the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers, there were no further obstacles all the way to Baghdad and then Israel. There are no major cities in the way, and no rivers or mountains to cross. Had they taken Basra in the late 1980’s, Iranian forces would have marched into Baghdad from the south within a few weeks. Saddam Hussein was barely able to hold them off at Basra, and only with the help of America. We had no choice, even knowing that Saddam Hussein was a brutal dictator.

And once again if it weren’t for the United States, Iran would march right in and seize the entire region.

Soleimani’s death sends an important message to all evil-doers out there.  Kill Americans and you personally will be hunted down and killed. If that’s going to be the Trump Doctrine, that’s fine by me.

TRESPASSERS WILL BE SHOT ON SIGHT, DO NOT VISIT
By Ahmed Odeh Guest Contributor September 24, 2024
We are upset that Donald Trump is positioning himself as the great defender of Israel. Trump has done nothing to try to win the Muslim vote, even though most Muslims are social conservatives. Meanwhile, the political support that many Muslims feel for the Democrats is unsustainable, as the core positions of the Left are hostile to our beliefs. Both problems are much more than frustrating. Muslims who are social conservatives must take a stand to state their beliefs. Those who agree with the following 25 conservative points are asked to click on the link below, print it, sign your name to this Declaration, and mail it to the Trump Campaign. Trump needs to be deluged with thousands of these. Each will be opened, because they think it’s a campaign donation. Trump and the Republican establishment need to hear it loud and clear that Muslims are the real conservatives, and that Jews are the Leftist and atheist enemy of the whole world.
